The Pine Lake clubhouse sits on (not surprisingly) Clubhouse Drive on the south side of the lake. It's used for elections, city meetings, and can be rented.
Here's the clubhouse in (I have reason to believe) the early 1950s.
Notice-- the room on the right (the kitchen) is obviously new, and was perhaps moved in.
Here's the clubhouse as it looks today:
This was the site of the Pine Lake teen club. Every Friday and Saturday night, Chief Purvis would Chaperone us while we danced to the juke box. (He even let us turn the lights down low) You had to sign in when you got there and sign out when you left. No signing back it. If your Mother wanted to know you were there, Chief could tell her. In the summer the juke box was moved to the lake. The beach house was called the concession stand and bath house. It even had changing rooms. All the local high schools had their class parties at the lake, so we always had new people showing up on weekends. The proceeds from the juke box paid for the annual street dance. Chief was our constant companion. I am so grateful he dedicated his life to us, allowing us to be true "Happy Days" teens. I am enjoying your old photos.
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen was always there. Chief sat behind the bar and watched us.
ReplyDeleteOOPs, I just checked some of my old papers and the kitchen was added later at a cost of $1000. The building(garage) to the far right was the fire station.
ReplyDeleteI heard the entire town used to go to the clubhouse for game night. Wish that still happened!
ReplyDeleteI see from a later comment you said the kitchen was added to the clubhouse later. The scrapbook from 1953 shows the new construction.
